Shanks play a critical role in both the performance and safety of inserted tooth circular saws. The cutting edge of the saw, the Bit, is held in place in the saw plate by the strength of the spring steel, hardened and tempered shank. Simonds shanks are precision CNC milled to exacting standards for quality and safety. Critical dimensions include both the centrality of the vee and the size of the circle. The spring which is a saw shank are be flexed and released thousands of times when in use and then again each time a dull or damaged saw bit is replaced. The alloy steel our shanks are machined from is specifically engineered for this spring application. It is both unwise and of questionable safety to utilize a casting for this application. Shanks should be maintained to have square edges in the gullet area to prevents dust spillage, capture and expel dust out of the cut. Regular Style shanks can be used with all types of saw bits. Super Shanks, with their built-in chip breaker, should only be used with Regular or Long type bits. Oversize shanks have a larger circle than standard shanks and can be used to compensate for wear on the saw plate until such time as the saw can be replaced.
Forged Bits and CNC machined, alloy spring steel Shanks enable us to confidently claim,
